It was lovely to see the AGM so well attended this year by both committee and members. The meeting was held in the conservatory at the Elfordleigh hotel and we said farewell to our chairman of two years Chris Wilkes with a bottle of scotch and a Plym Chamber bottle of red wine.
Our new chairman Mike Lee is manager of Elfordleigh hotel and thanked Chris for all his hard work.
Councillor Glenn Jordan then introduced our speakers Charles Hackett, Chief Executive Mayflower 400 and Darin Halifax from Plymouth city council.
Charles talked about the history of the Mayflower and how diverse the 102 people on it would’ve been. It is anticipated that the celebrations will commence with illuminate in November 2019 and will continue for a year. The celebrations will be both national and international and a great opportunity for Plymouth to show itself to the world.
Darin then talked about how we can get involved locally and make a big difference by all moving in the same direction. There will be an exciting few years ahead of us as we prepare but also there is hope that a legacy will continue long after 2020. After the meeting was closed those in attendance enjoyed a two course meal including a chocolate torte.
