The Art of Digital Networking
Plym Chamber has embraced the virtual technology and is now holding its breakfast meetings on Zoom.
The attendance is growing as the word is getting out and our members know they are not alone in these difficult times.
This weeks speaker was Samantha Williams from Cancer Research UK, who gave a very strong presentation about the effects of the pandemic on the Charity. Currently their 600 shops are all shut and all their fundraising activities, including Race4Life are on hold. These fundraising events alone normally raise approx £35,000,000 for the charity so there is a big hole in their finances.
Sam explained that the pandemic has also created more problems for the future. Due to the pandemic, too many people are reluctant to see their GP to discuss symptoms during this time and this can cause huge problems in the future if cancer is not detected early enough. Each week in the UK 2,700 cancers go undiagnosed. This is an area that they wish to raise awareness of as putting it off could delay treatment and long-term increase deaths from cancer.
Cancer Research UK are working hard and will survive with our help. They contribute 50% of all cancer research in the UK but have now deployed their clinical staff to the NHS and all staff have taken a 20% pay cut. Clearly we are not out of the woods yet and if you can support this charity you can click on this link.
Our next Digital Breakfast will be on the 23rd of June, so please keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details, or take a look on our website here. All are welcome so we hope to see you there!
